The Becky Thatcher Home.jpgThe Becky Thatcher Home is the childhood home of Laura Hawkins, Mark Twain’s childhood sweetheart. In Twain’s writings, Becky Thatcher was Tom Sawyer’s sweetheart. Hawkins lived in the house during the 1840’s and the upstairs parlor and bedroom have been restored to their original appearance. The main floor offers a book store and gift shop for visitors.

Mark Twain Cave - Hannibal, Missouri

Mark Twain Cave.jpgThe Mark Twain Cave near Hannibal, Missouri was discovered in the Winter of 1819-1820 when a man named Jack Sims was hunting and his dog chased an animal into a small opening.

The Mark Twain Cave is also the oldest show cave in the state of Missouri, giving tours for over 114 years. The cave has also served as a place of hiding for Indians, trappers of animals for trade, the infamous Jesse James and slaves searching for freedom via the Underground Railroad.
