Mid-Missouri Museum of Independent Telephone Pioneers - Blackwater, Missouri

The days prior to direct dial phones have a wonderful history of equipment and stories to tell. This museum holds lots of equipment from those days for you to see.

It is housed in a building that was originally the Bank of Blackwater. The bank did not survive the Depression and the building was later used as a church, grocery store, and the offices of Mid-Missouri Telephone Company. When the phone company first moved in, they still had operators sitting at their switchboards handling calls.

The collection of phones, switchboards and other items featured in the museum were donated by the owner of the phone company and by a retired executive of GTE.

If you were around in the days before direct dial you will thoughly enjoy seeing this memorabilia. If you weren’t or your kids are with you, just think of the history that you will be exposed to and see how far technology has taken us.
