blackwater missouri.jpgBlackwater, Missouri
A typical small town that was on the verge of dying when the roads were improved and people started traveling to other communties to buy. Now, just look at what’s happening!

Founded in 1887 near the Missouri Pacific Railroad this town was flourishing, then change happened, it became another small town that had it’s businesses closing and the downtown are just going to ruin.

But in the 1990s, following the formation of the Blackwater Preservation Society, the town’s fortunes started to improve. The Iron Horse Hotel and Restaurant (pictured), a classic building dating back to the railroad era of the 1880s, has been renovated. It now offers has 11 rooms and a large restaurant.

New brick sidewalks have been installed by volunteer labor, and old-time street lamps have been donated. Several buildings have been restored and new businesses have moved in. A Telephone Museum opened and a community theatre started productions.

Come and see what can happen to a community when they pull together to save themselves!
