The Museum of Art and Archaeology - Columbia, Missouri

Are you a fan of art museums?  If so you will want to take the opportunity to visit the art museum of the University of Missouri-Columbia located in Pickard Hall which also houses the Department of Art History and Archaeology allowing you to get two wonderful places at one stop.

The Museum of Art and Archaeology is the only accredited museum in the University of Missouri system and the only accredited art museum in mid-Missouri.  This desired status enables the museum to obtain some works that may otherwise be out of their reach.

With the museum located in Pickard Hall at the corner of University Ave. and South Ninth St. (this is on the campus of UofM grounds) the accessibility for all that want to view the artwork and learn from the greats is possible.

The museum features not only the classics but object-based and multimedia art and sculptures.  There are over 14,000 works of art and archaeological objects on display in the five galleries at the museum.  Temporary exhibits are exhibited in three additional galleries enabling the museum to continually provide the best art available.

The art comes from a wide range of cultures such as Greek, Roman, and Near Eastern with significant items from ancient Egypt and Byzantine times.  More important holdings are from the European and American art from the fifteenth century to present day.  You won’t miss out on the beautiful works for Asian, African, Pre-Columbian or Oceanic vultures since they are well represented at the museum.
