Dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge in 1926, it was intended to be the only monument to world conflict, but that distinction was not to last as World War II began just 13 years later in 1939.

The new Bloch Building offers a parking garage and entrance plaza, the completion and opening of the Ford Learning Center and numerous renovations and restorations of the original Nelson-Atkins Building, including the new Adelaide Cobb Ward Sculpture Hall.
