Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site - Paris, Missouri
Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site - Paris, Missouri Union Covered Bridge is the only surviving example in Missouri of the Burr-arch truss system. Built in 1871 to span the Elk Fork of the Salt River, the bridge served travelers on the Paris-to-Fayette Road through Monroe County for 99 years.
The bridge is closed to traffic, but open for public visitation. The historic site was restored twice; once in 1968 and again in 1988 by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and is maintained by this state agency.
Located five miles west of Paris on Highway 24, four miles south on County Route C, and one-fourth of a mile west on an unmarked, asphalt road.
