"Spirit of Freedom" 9-11 Memorial – St. Charles, MO
Thirteen tons of twisted steel from the September 11, 2001 destruction of the World Trade Center in New York dominate this compelling monument in the median at Winghaven Boulevard and Highway 40-61. The memorial was dedicated September 11, 2003.
To memorialize Americans who were killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York City and Washington, DC, O’Fallon erected this inspiring public art project in 2003. The twisted metal and steel piece was dedicated at the intersection of the WingHaven community and Highway 40/61 on the second anniversary of the attacks. The 13-ton monument is a poignant reminder of lives lost and the rallying together of communities following the worst attack on American soil in the country’s history.
