Locust Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site - Laclede, MO Locust Creek Covered Bridge, built in 1868, once housed the nation’s first transcontinental road, Route 8. Today, it is the longest of the four remaining bridges measuring 151 feet.
Gen. John J. Pershing Boyhood Home State Historic Site - Laclede, MO One of America’s highest ranked military officers, Gen. John J. "Black Jack" Pershing, spent most of his childhood years in the small town of Laclede.
Battle of Athens State Historic Site - Revere, MO site of the northern most battle of the civil war fought west of the Mississippi River.
Some of the land and buildings included in the site were part of the once-thriving town of Athens. Located on the Des Moines River, 19th century Athens boasted about 50 businesses before the Civil War, including a large mill that produced flour, cornmeal, lumber, cotton and woolen goods.
Terrible’s Mark Twain Casino - La Grange, Missouri a stationary boat Casino in La Grange, Missouri and is open Sun-Thu 8am-2am, Fri-Sat 8am-4am. The casino’s 15,000 square foot gaming space features 668 gaming machines and fourteen table games. The property has two restaurants.
Monroe County Courthouse - Paris, Missouri Present building is 3rd Courthouse at this site in Monroe County, the first being built in 1831-35. It was a 50-foot square two-story brick building, with white stone foundation and hipped roof in center of square. An 8-foot, shuttered, octagonal cupola was supported by a 10-foot-square base. Its roof was covered with tin. A brass ball, fish and Franklin rod adorned the top. Builders were Pavey and Orr. Three sides had doors with fanlights, flanked by a pair of windows.
Monroe County Museum - Paris, Missouri The Monroe County Historical Museum is located on the first floor of the Monroe County Courthouse in Paris, MO. The museum is open during regular business hours of the courthouse.
The Male Academy - Paris, Missouri Built in 1850 located on Monroe Street north of the fairgrounds. There are 13 rooms and one of the back rooms has an inside well. There was space for 30 boarders.
The Glenn House - Paris, Missouri Built in 1855 it had three stories of red brick with exterior walls of 14 inch solid brick and interior dividing walls of 9 inch solid brick, there were 31 rooms.
Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site - Paris, Missouri Union Covered Bridge is the only surviving example in Missouri of the Burr-arch truss system. Built in 1871 to span the Elk Fork of the Salt River, the bridge served travelers on the Paris-to-Fayette Road through Monroe County for 99 years.
Mark Twain State Park - Paris, Missouri Established in the 1920s through the efforts of the Mark Twain Memorial Park Association, it was transferred to the state in 1924 and is the third oldest state park in Missouri.
