Augusta Plein Air Art Event - Augusta, Missouri

Augusta Plein Air Art EventAs many as 100 artists from Missouri and surrounding states are expected to arrive in Historic Missouri Wine Country during the period of April  22nd through May 2nd  for the 7th Annual Augusta Plein Air Art Event, sponsored by the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce.   Artists will be completing their pieces in the tradition of Plein Air (outdoors), capturing the nuances of natural light in their work.  The beauty and hospitality of the area has attracted an increasing number of participants each year.  Many of the participating artists are shown in galleries across the state.

Artists may be observed in the town of Augusta and in the surrounding countryside.  The historic buildings and barns of the area, the emerging signs of spring, and the rolling hills and vineyards provide a wide array of subject matter for the artists, as well as for visitors to the area.  Find a beautiful view and you will likely spot an artist.  In addition to the wide open spaces, several area businesses including Sugar Creek Winery, Mt. Pleasant Winery, Chandler Hill Vineyards, Augusta Winery and Beer Garden, Balducci Vineyards, and Wine Country Gardens will be hosting the artists for a day of painting during the 10 day period.  The public is invited to observe the development of a piece of art from conception to completion at the various painting locations.  A judging panel will select a painting for a purchase award to be made at a social hour/reception following the day of painting at each hosted event.  The public will have a unique opportunity to meet the artists and consider their own purchase of a piece of artwork produced that day.

Members of this small community graciously welcome the artists into their midst.  The American Legion in Augusta is the gathering place for the artists who can start each day with coffee or tea, a homemade breakfast pastry or some fruit or just take a break from the elements, have a snack and meet with friends.  Visitors can stop by the American Legion and check on the schedule for the day and find their favorite artist.

The Augusta Plein Air Event culminates with judging, awards, sale & auction on the final day, Saturday, May 2nd.  Prizes are awarded in five categories: oil, acrylic, pastel, water color, and mixed media.  A total of approximately $6000 will be awarded in prizes.  Winning artwork will be sold at auction and artists will be displaying/selling remaining work all day.  Proceeds from the sale are used to fund the Plein Air Scholarship which is awarded to selected Augusta area students.

You are invited to come and welcome spring in beautiful Historic Missouri Wine Country and meet the artists who are capturing the place and season on their canvases.
