Cameron Depot Museum - Cameron, Missouri restored, the former Burlington Northern depot is now the Depot Museum which houses artifacts tracing Cameron’s railroad heritage.
The town once had three train stations including the elegant Cameron Junction and boasted 44 trains a day. Railroad contractors completed the Hannibal-St. Joseph Railway ahead of schedule in 1859 and earned a bonus—ten gallons of whiskey. You won’t get ten gallons of whiskey now, but you can certainly learn about the history of the impact of the railroad on the community and region.
Jessee James gang boarded the train here to ride to Winston. The museum has artifacts from that time, including a dental chair that was on the train. Winston is the site of the 1881 train robbery during which the conductor and others were slain debunks the Robin Hood aspect of the James legend.
