The Village that Was - Knobview & Rosati, Missouri
The Village that Was - Knobview & Rosati, Missouri This area was primarily an Italian settlement area with grapes for Concord Juice produced.
Near to St. James, this community that can still be seen for their grape vineyards was the location of the Concord grapes being grown under contract for jelly and jams as well as juice. By 1990, Welch’s stopped renewing contracts to purchase the growers’ grapes. During this time, more new wineries opened and the acreage of wine grapes kept increasing. The Concord vineyards which had been owned by many, individual farmers and used mainly for the production of juice and jelly were gradually replaced with vineyards of other varieties needed for modern wine production. They were primarily owned by a few winery owners. Most of the old vineyards planted many decades ago are gone, and modern, irrigated vineyards account for most of the grapes grown in the Rosati-St. James area today.
The area still produces wine but no longer the Concord grape. The vineyards in the area are a welcoming stop for you while you travel through Missouri.
Although there is no phone number to contact the location is on I-44 and Route 66, you can still see vineyards, grape stands, and the Rosati Winery, just as has been for more than 70 years.
