St. Joe State Park – Park Hills, Missouri 8242 acres of adventure in the states 3rd largest state park. Activities: camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking, hiking – equestrian – mountain biking – backpacking – bicycling – all-terrain vehicle trails.
There are approximately 2,000 acres set aside for the state’s premier off-road vehicle (ORV) riding area.
The park has been the home of several popular ATV races, including the Flat River Grand Prix, for many years. The wooded portions of the 8,238-acre park provide horseback riding, hiking, and biking trails, as well as picnic areas and campsites for horseback & ATV riders, and other guests. The park is also the home of Monsanto Lake with a large swimming area an beach.
Although there were rumors that the park would cease having the flatlands available for racing, that has not been done. The EPA thinks it is not safe for people to be exposed to the level of lead in the area, the state is working with them to find a solution to the issue. In the mean time, things go forward as in the past.
