Beggs Family Farm – Sikeston-Miner, Missouri
A family farm that has opened itself to the public and school trips to show what farming is all about. Something different than the typical museum, this one is a living lesson.
Beggs Melon Company is a family owned business that was established in 1895. The farm operation centers on row crop and specialty crops with a new focus of family entertainment. The farm consists of approximately 1100 acres of land.
The crops are corn, sunflowers, strawberries, watermelon, and pumpkins, watermelon being the primary crop.
At this time they raise approximately 200 acres of melons. We sell most of them through brokers, but also sell to peddlers and individuals. Last season we sold over 140 truckloads.
The farm has a corn maize every year for your challenge.
Beggs Family Farm is the place to bring the whole family for an educational and fun filled day. Open weekends starting September and continuing through October (check the dates for actual weekend times since it varies every year. (Beggs Family Farm will be putting on a Fall Harvest Celebration.) Dates for 2008 are Oct. 4,5, 11,12, 18, 19, 25, 26 and Nov. 1
