Get down! Here come the rolls! This is the original place that rolls were thrown to you during your meal.

Lamert’s Cafe was established on March 13, 1942. Earl and Agnes Lambert with 14 cents between them, borrowed $1500 from Tish Jones and with 5 employees opened for business in a small building on South Main Street in Sikeston Missouri. It consisted of a 9 stool counter and 8 tables for a total seating capacity of 41 people.

The cafe standing right now is the third one to be located there. Each move from the original LAMBERT’S came as popularity of the cafe increased and more space was needed. The first roll was thrown in 1976 by Norman Lambert. At the original location, he would walk around and hand out the rolls.. One day it was really busy when Norman couldn’t get through the crowd….one of the customers yelled to him " Throw the D*** thing!". And with that The ONLY HOME OF THROWED ROLLS ® was born.

The Lamert’s have three cafes, one in Ozark, one in Foley and this one in Sikeston.

Their ovens turn out rolls from 9:15 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. usually without stopping. With this in mind they thought you might be interested in the following: last year they averaged baking 520 dozen rolls per day, for a grand total of 2,246,400 individual rolls.

Their rolls are 5 inches in diameter and if they laid the rolls that they baked in one year side by side, they would have 177.27 miles of rolls. In the past 21 months they have baked enough rolls to reach 300 miles. That’s the distance between St. Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee

The food was great – the workers were great – the price was fine. The bathroom was terrible. I got there about 10:40am and went to the larger bathroom by the main entrance. The sinks were all dirty, not fresh dirt. All of the stools had paper in them and the one I used had dirty rusty stains all over the back by the inlet pipe. The stall walls were in need of a good cleaning and the stall doors could use some paint. I had to go to 3 sinks before I found one that worked and the mirrors were spotted. There were bugs in the light covers. I ride down from Effingham IL, 192 miles, once a year and enjoy the ride and the meal. With the fame and volume of customers that surrounds Lambert’s Cafes, I was very surprised to find the bathroom that dirty. I am not asking for a reply or anything -this is just FYI.
