Annual Emmett Kelly Clown Festival - Houston, Missouri
Annual Emmett Kelly Clown Festival - Houston, Missouri
Held every year the first weekend in May in Houston, Missouri, where Emmet Kelly spent much of his youth, the Emmett Kelly Clown Festival offers a clown school where you can learn the arts of juggling and makeup during the first weekend of May. You will also be able to enjoy clown competitions, a clown parade, and magic shows.
Weary Willie was a revolutionary clown. For one thing, Weary Willie never smiled. Weary Willie wore tattered clothes and always looked as if he had a beard just ready to sprout. Weary Willie made people smile and laugh in sympathy rather than just because of slapstick antics. He would also parody performances as the performances were in progress. Weary Willie was a huge hit.
The celebration is held in Houston since it was the home of Emmett Kelley Sr. Mr. Kelley lived from 1898-1979.
The community gets together to honor this wonderful addition to the history of the clown Emmett Kelley. You are invited to join them for this fun celebration.
Date: First weekend in May
