Chesapeake Fish Hatchery - Mt. Vernon, Missouri
Chesapeake Fish Hatchery - Mt. Vernon, Missouri Millions of warmwater fish are raised for release at this hatchery. Tours are available.
You can enjoy a range of activities at the hatchery from bird watching hiking or just having a lovely picnic. Of course there is no littering at the hatchery, no fishing or hunting on the grounds.
This hatchery produce some of the walleye, paddlefish, muskie and other species used to stock many of the 846 lakes in the conservation department area. Hatcheries also provide fingerling largemouth bass, bluegill and catfish for yearly stocking of private impoundments.
Anyone that has had a fish tank knows how much work it is to keep it clean, the hatchery is not that different, only a great deal larger! The water has to be kept clean, the dead fish (yes, there are some fish that die, just like in your tank at home) need to be cleaned out and disposed of, the landscaping around the tank (rather than inside the tank like yours) needs to be kept looking good. The work is never ending in order to provide the quality of fish that the lakes in Missouri deserve to be stocked with for your enjoyment.
