This driving tour will take you around to some of the areas that were involved, where houses were burned to the ground and lives were lost in the battles of the Civil War.

Missouri was the site of the northern-most battle in the Civil War. It saw the first battle of an African-American regiment and the largest cavalry operation in American military history.

History Museum of Springfield-Greene County
Historical Museum located in Springfield’s former city hall has a section devoted to the Civil War, and also a full-length portrait of Charles Zagonyi, the only one known to exist.

Springfield, Nevada (Battle of Drywood Creek), Carthage (Battle of Carthage SHS; Battle of Carthage), Hartville (Battle of Hartville), Newtonia (Battle of Newtonia (1st) are the locations in the southwest section of Missouri that had battles that are commemorated on this tour. You will see where the battles took place and learn more of the involvement and cost of the war to the state.
