The Calaboose – Springfield, Missouri

The Calaboose.jpgThe Calaboose – Springfield, Missouri the oldest existing structure owned by the city. Built in 1891 was built as a jail.

The building was rescued from deterioration caused by age, weather, and lack of ongoing maintenance.

This federally recognized historical restoration returns the structure to use as a police substation and includes a police museum on the first floor.

City archives were researched to make sure that the structure was accurately repaired and restored to it’s original design.

Whenever available, original materials were used and reconstruction components were consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation Projects.

What an amazing undertaking by the city to take this historical structure and restore it and add the modern ammenities needed to have a functioning station. You will want to take the opportunity to view this facility.
