Precious Moments Chapel Center - Carthage, MO

Precious Moments Chapel Center.jpgPrecious Moments Chapel Center - Carthage, MO is an inspirational theme park in southwest Missouri and offers a unique experience for all who visit. The park features a chapel, fountains, artwork, gardens and décor based on the teardrop-eyed children of Precious Moments.

The Chapel
The Chapel is considered an architectural masterpiece by many and inspirational to all who walk through its doors. The chapel opened in 1989 with the intent to offer a sense of peace, hope and promise. Sam Butcher, the artist and designer, used his Precious Moments art to bring well known and loved stories from the Bible to life in dozens of murals. From the story of creation to the promise of the resurrection, the Chapel tour guide takes guests through the many stories of God’s love for us.

Fountain of Angels
Choreographed jets of water and light dance to a beautiful musical score performed by the London Philharmonic. The Fountain of Angels is among the world’s largest show fountains. Daily fountain show times are 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. This schedule continues through the remainder of the year with the addition of a 7 pm performance Friday and Saturday evening Nov. 3, - Dec. 30.

Sitting in its own 10-story theater, the majestic fountain performances combine soaring water effects reaching 80 feet in height with brilliant lighting and inspirational music and film. Two separate performances are shown daily during the season March through December.

Wedding Island
Fairytale weddings are a reality on the Wedding Island at the Precious Moments Inspiration Park. Wedding Island features an 1880’s wedding chapel and bride’s house. The chapel provides a naturally beautiful setting for weddings and the bride’s house is the perfect setting for the bride and her attendants to prepare for the big day.

Receptions are held in the ballroom of an 1890’s Victorian mansion complete with domed ceiling and marble floor inlaid with Precious Moments art.

Precious Moments Park and its gardens are open daily year around with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The Gallery
The story of how Precious Moments began is uniquely displayed in The Gallery located in the Chapel gardens. The Gallery displays a mural painted by Sam Butcher that first hung in the offices of Jonathan and David in Michigan. It was there Precious Moments artwork became an art form developed in the original 21 Precious Moments figurines. A set of the 21 originals are found there.

The Gallery is home to the Esther Everly collection of early figurines, Debbie’s Dollhouse and the Samuel J. Butcher Theater. The theater shows historical footage of the artist and collectors during the early days of Precious Moments.

Figurine Manufacturing
Precious Moments figurines with their trademark tear-drop eyes and inspirational messages are among the most recognized product in the world. While visiting Precious Moments Park, guests are taken through each step of the process from a clay sculpture being hand crafted to the mold making process and the pouring of pure white porcelain bisque slip.

Although the demonstration figurines are not fired on Park property, guests get a firsthand look at the intricate detail needed for each to be hand painted. The Figurine Creation Exhibit provides a complete look at the creation of a classic collectible.

I really enjoyed the chapel and grounds — both times I was there. (Mar., 2008 & Oct., 1995) The murals in the chapel and the displays in the gift shop are beautiful. I just wish there were pictures (posters) of different scenes; expecially a large one of Hallelujah Square. I would like to have one about 11×14. I would also like to know more about Sam Butcher and how he came to build this marvel. I hope they keep this wonderful place open forever.

Got something to say?
